Narconon endorses a drug-free treatment approach, and does not implement the use of prescription medications or other “unnatural” remedies for substance abuse. Unlike many treatment programs, Narconon avoids a 12-step program, and instead implements a custom 4-stage program for treatment.

Phase I focuses on drug-free withdrawal, detoxification, and establishing new communication skills. The second phase of the Narconon program is implemented to promote new life skills and methods for facing the challenges that await outside of the treatment facility. Phase III was developed to improve self-esteem in each client, and to restore a sense of personal integrity. Finally, Phase IV is a personalized plan and approach stage to help transition back to life outside of the residential facility, and to develop a plan for avoiding relapse. Long-term follow-up care for both the client (Narconon uses the term “student”) and their family is provided following completion of the program.

Special Interest: Narconon treatment programs are based on the treatment and work designed by L. Ron Hubbard in the mid 20^th century. The treatment program is based in Hubbard’s work, and is associated with the Church of Scientology.

Providence Recovery Center offers short-term and long-term inpatient treatment services, and most programs last between 30 and 90 days. A multitude of program options are available, and each client will receive individual counseling, medical assessments, and detoxification if needed. The program is based on a 12-step recovery structure, and treatment planning is provided with the client’s input along the way. Cognitive behavioral therapy is also provided, and a Christian track program is available for those clients who may request such services.

The small center has limited space, and operates in a group home setting. Spencer Recovery Centers offers several specific substance abuse treatment programs individually tailored to each individual’s needs. The standard inpatient program feature three stages that focus on medical detoxification, rehabilitation, and family counseling. The length of the inpatient program varies and is based on the needs of the client. Primary care programs lasts three to four weeks, and include physical, emotional, and spiritual recovery.

For those who require long-term care, an extended care program is available for up to 90 days. Screening Addiction Treatment Centers for Affordability

I am far from familiar with the vast majority of the 11,000 programs around the country that offer treatment, so I am in no position to make recommendations about any one program, but I do know what I value about their websites and the Betty Ford Center’s is exemplary.Right on their program page you will find costs and what they cover. Never mind that they are too expensive for most of the people I know, the fact is that the cost is out there for all to see and I value that and if you’re looking for treatment you should too. What’s the use in taking the next step of making a phone call if there is now way that you could afford the program.

A second best option is a statement like the one De Paul Treatment Centers in Portland Oregon has that reads:

De Paul is a private non-profit agency governed by a volunteer board of directors. Support comes from Federal, State and county governments, public and private insurance and contributions from foundations, corporations and private individuals. Methods of payment for services include a sliding fee scale for all services, Oregon Health Plan and many private insurance plans, and Multnomah and Washington County-funded residential and outpatient slots.

At least from this I know they don’t have a one size fits all cost structure. I also have a pretty good idea that they are an affordable program for the less than wealthy.

If budget is a consideration in your decision for choosing a treatment program look for such statements on the websites of treatment centers your screening. However, know that most don’t do this and don’t rule them out for it, but do encourage them to add their cost structures to their sites.
